Replaced timing chain, balance shaft/water pump chain, water pump, thermostat, all guides, sprockets and both tensioners and associated gaskets and seals. Installed used, undamaged valve cover with new gasket and grommets. Filled oil and coolant, ran to operating temperature and changed oil again, both times replaced oil filter. Suggest changing oil and filter every other week or so until you don't see metal glitter in the oil filter.

Verified, battery was dead, charged battery, looked over engine bay for anything obvious, found PCV hose was not connected and creating a massive vacuum leak. Connected PCV hose, started, idles fine, test drove, operating normally at this time. Needed to replace vehicle battery, old one was internally shorted.
